To help readers tap into their power, we need to make big ideas clear, moving, and easy to absorb. I use close attention to audience and how language touches readers to find words that will catalyze the best sides of people.
I see editing as a way of smoothing away the edges of a work in progress to find the masterpiece that's waiting to be revealed. I love helping people hone their ideas and seeing this unfold.
I am trained in historical methods, including oral history. My grasp of history and my lifetime of participation in social movements help me clue in to seen and unseen contexts and create the best possible outcome when my client's message meets the world.
Individuals
I enjoy even the smallest opportunity to help people share who they really are. I support scholars with their dissertations and help others translate their research for popular audiences. I help job-seekers write resumes that turn their worst jobs into a confident expression of their strengths. I work with families to preserve their elders' oral histories, craft rituals and liturgy for lifecycle events and speeches for communal leaders, and transcribe the spoken word with exquisite attention to the meaning of each pause and laugh.
Organizations
Most of my work is with organizations. With decades of experience in social justice work, I help organizations craft messaging, branding, and strategy. I research, write, edit, and advise on organizational curricula and trainings. I support directors to write op-eds, create web content and generate newsletters.
My favorite recent project was guest- editing the third issue of Fragments magazine (forthcoming, September 2024).
